The Midlands Ministry Training Course is the flagship ministry of the Midlands Gospel Partnership. The course began twelve years ago, and now has over 80 students enrolled in any year.
When the Bible is taught God’s voice is heard. Teachers who ‘rightly handle’ the Word of truth are essential in today’s church. Whether in the congregation, home group, children’s club or youth group, indeed wherever the Bible is taught, we need people who can teach God’s Word in the power of the Spirit.
MMTC is designed to help both men and women understand and teach the Bible, so they will be better equipped to serve in a variety of contexts. Although the course is ideal for those who preach, it is not intended exclusively to train people for ‘up front’ ministry. MMTC now runs two similar courses, hosted in Birmingham and Nottingham. Both courses take place on Thursdays, from 10.00am to 4.00pm, over approximately 32 weeks, during three academic terms (from mid-Sept to early July).
The course may be taken in just one year. But we encourage students to return for a second year that builds on the material taught in the first year.
We aim to build strong links between MMTC and a student’s sending church, providing regular feedback to the supervising minister.
The course is open to men and women of all ages who want to be better equipped to teach the Bible in a variety of contexts. It is ideal for those serving apprenticeships, youth workers in local churches and those considering full time Christian ministry. However, it is ideal for others who have opportunities to teach the Bible and who have a desire to be better equipped for it. Currently our students range in age from 20 to 70!
The Venues : MMTC West and MMTC East
For 2016/17 the Course will be run at two centres – at St Stephen’s, Selly Park in Birmingham (MMTC West) and Stapleford Baptist Church, Stapleford near Nottingham (MMTC East). Students will be able to choose the centre which is most accessible for them. As far as is possible, the Course content will be replicated at the two centres with tutors moving between the centres through the year. John James (Helier Chapel, Northfield) will have oversight of the MMTC West centre, and will be working closely with Paul Hancock, the MGP Training Director, who will have oversight of the whole Course and be leading at the MMTC East centre.
